How to convert audio to mp3
- Drop a wav, m4a, flac, ogg or opus file above, or choose it.
- Pick a quality. 192 kbps suits most files.
- Press Convert and save, and the mp3 downloads.
How it works
The page reads your file, then encodes it as an mp3 with LAME, the encoder most apps use. It all happens in your browser.
The mp3 keeps the file’s channels, so a stereo song stays stereo. A file with more than two channels is mixed down to two.
When to use mp3
- Sharing and uploading. An mp3 is about a tenth the size of a wav, and every phone, app and website plays it.
- Editing. Keep the wav while you still edit, and make the mp3 at the end. Each new mp3 of an mp3 loses a little more.
The steps for doing this in other apps are in how to convert wav to mp3.
