Change audio speed without changing the pitch

Speed up or slow down audio online without changing the pitch. Play a lecture, podcast or song at 0.5x to 2x, then save it as an mp3. Free, no upload.

How to change audio speed without changing pitch

  1. Drop the file above, or choose it.
  2. Pick a speed, from half to double, and play it to check.
  3. Press the button to make the new file.
  4. Save it as an mp3 or wav.

How it works

The tool cuts the sound into slices about 46 milliseconds long. To speed it up, it skips a little between slices, and to slow it down, it steps back.

Each slice is nudged until its wave lines up with the one before it. That keeps the joins smooth and the pitch the same.

The preview uses your browser’s own player. The saved file is made on your device, so it can sound a tiny bit different.

Tips for a clear result

  • Try a short bit first. Play a few lines in the preview before you save the whole file.
  • Speech holds up best. Voices sound natural up to about 1.5×. Busy music can sound a little smeared at big changes.
  • Cut what you don’t need. The audio trimmer takes off the start and the end first.
  • Take out noise first. A fan or hum changes speed along with the voice. The noise remover takes it out.
  • Rather read it? Audio to text turns a lecture or voice note into text.

Questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The speed is changed in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.

How does it keep the voice from sounding like a chipmunk?

It cuts the sound into tiny slices and lays them down closer together or further apart. The length changes, but each voice keeps its own pitch.

Which files does it take?

It takes mp3, wav, m4a, flac and ogg files. You can save the new file as an mp3 or a wav.

Is there a length limit?

The free tool takes files up to 10 minutes, because your browser holds the whole file in memory. The Gleam Audio app splits recordings of any length into parts, on your computer.

What speed should I pick for a lecture?

Most people follow speech well at 1.25× to 1.5×. Try a few speeds in the preview, then save the fastest one that still feels clear.

How do I slow down a song without changing the pitch?

Drop the song here, pick a speed under 1x, like 0.75x, and save it. The notes stay in the same key.

Can I speed up a lecture or audiobook?

Yes. 1.25x to 1.5x saves time and stays easy to follow for most people.
