How to check the LUFS of a song or file
- Drop the song, episode or voiceover above, or choose it.
- Read its integrated loudness and peak.
- Check the table to see how far it is from each platform’s target.
What the numbers mean
Integrated loudness is how loud the whole file sounds on average, in LUFS. It is the number podcast apps and streaming sites use to turn files up or down.
Sample peak is the loudest moment, in dBFS, where 0 is the most a file can hold. Keep it at −1 or lower so nothing clips when the file is turned into an mp3.
When a file is too quiet or too loud
Within 1 LU of the target is close enough. A file further off gets turned up or down by the platform, which can make it clip or sound flat next to others.
The volume booster sets a file to any of these targets. More on the unit itself is in What is LUFS?
